Well actually hooking up is hardly fun. In fact it is very tedious. They seek to respond to requests and a link takes time and effort. But if you are not actively building ties RIGHT how it is going to be left behind. In other words, your site will be “Lost in Cyberspace”. Indeed, Google, and to a lesser extent, other major search engines reward sites with links from relevant and important pages.
If you want to surrender your site search engine lots of traffic (and who does not?) There are two equally important factors:
1) lots of words-rich, search engine friendly content
2) relevant lots, incoming connections from sources RIGHT
For the real success will have to cover both of these strategies. Do not focus on one and not the other.
Well, we go about building your ties? It is not rocket science, but, as I said, it takes time and effort. From my own experience, here what you should do:
1) Download and install the Google Toolbar:
This will show your PageRank of the page you are viewing. PageRank is a measure, a score of 1 to 10, from the “importance” that Google puts on this page. There has been a lot written about the PageRank. It is not necessary to obsession, but it is an important consideration in establishing WHO for the link. A link from a PR-5 FAR page is worth more than a page PR-0.
2) the establishment of a resource or links directory for your site. This allows potential link partners to see that you are willing to exchange links. We should make it clear to your pages ties that bind your policy, what it is, thus, under what circumstances would you agree to exchange links.
3) The objective should be to build a resource list that are relevant to your business. Do not try to build a mini Yahoo into many different categories. Keep your directory site focused on you. When you first start you will be inclined to connect with anyone in exchange for a link from anyone. This is wrong. Be patient and select the link partners carefully.
4) Before requesting a link from another site, to add this site to your list. Contact the webmaster and you say to them, their relationship because they believe the site would be of interest to your visitors (and should). Enter the URL where is the link and ask for a refund bond, together with instructions on how you would like your link worded. WHEN demand, saying things like ‘if you do not link to us we will remove the link “.
5) If you have not received a reply after 2 to 3 weeks send a polite follow-up. Again, we do not expect. Nobody is under any obligation to connect to you. If no response to your second question request means that the webmaster does not want to associate with you, or are simply too busy to respond. In this case, I leave and move on. I receive dozens of link requests a day. Sometimes it several weeks me to get around to responding. Going mad worrying about links that have not been met. The time spent is better.
6) When receiving a connection request and visit the site to check whether it satisfies your requirements, as set forth in your pages link. Is it a good quality site with content, or just a “link farm”? If not meet your requirements do not link to it.
The webmaster MUST have already connected to your site, but be prepared to overlook that breech protocol Association as to whether they are good quality, high PR site.
7) Beware of webmasters who want to add your site “list”, which proves that there is a link farm that has no valuable content, just a bunch of links, and asks you to connect to a completely different place, have a good content. These webmasters play with you for a sucker. The benefit is theirs.
As I said in point # 1, links from high PR pages are worth more than links from low or no PR pages. Searches high PR links partners, but keep in mind is the PR page of your real connection that matters, NOT the PR of the home page. In other words, if the home is PR 5, the page is about your connection is several layers deep in the directory, which we will probably have a PR of 0 and be of little benefit to you. Test the PR page of your real connection is, or will be on before agreeing to exchange links.
Each page links to your list should not be more than one click away from your home page, and connect you partner of the site should be the same. If the link is placed on a page which looks something like this - directory / Class / / sub with your link - which will flow from that value NO link.
9) Be prepared to negotiate your ties. Savvy webmasters understand the value of links from high PR pages. If you add a link to a page PR-0 to your site do not expect your link partner to link you to a page PR-6, and your link partners should not expect the same from you. Exchange rate for like value.
